It has been my dream and aspiration to make space more accessible. I feel privileged to lead this laboratory, applying my expertise and experiences earned in my academic and research career after 16 years spent in the US, UK, Europe, and Australia.

Suk Hyun Yeo

Taking a keen interest in combining space flight/propulsion systems and multidisciplinary design optimisation, I endeavour to make space more accessible in terms of not only Earth-to-space transportation but also interplanetary, deep space travel.

Yuki Takao

After working on deep space exploration missions for 8 years in JAXA, I joined STSEL as an assistant professor in 2023. I am highly motivated to open the way to unexplored worlds in the solar system and beyond.

Mehmet Aksay

Mehmet Aksay

I joined STSEL after getting a MSc degree from METU (in Turkey) to pursue my dreams of contributing towards humanity by making the space exploration and space travel more feasible and accessible for all people living on Earth. My hobbies are martial arts, traditional archery, Japanese tea ceremony and reading. I also love going to theatres, concerts, musicals, cultural festivals and art exhibitions.

Chihiro Fujio

I’m interested in hypersonic air-breathing propulsion, in particular, scramjet engines. I’m studying the aerodynamic flowfields and physical phenomena by using CFD simulations.

Tsubasa Ozawa

Hello, I am Tsubasa. My name ‘Tsubasa’ means ‘wing’ in Japanese, so I believe I’m destined to study aerospace engineering. I was living in Tokyo for a long time, but after coming Kyushu, I got to really enjoy natural surroundings and delicious seafoods here, and driving around such beautiful places has become one of my most favourite hobbies. I also like playing and watching soccer.

Midori Takezaki

I have been interested in space engineering since I was a junior high school student. My bachelor thesis dealt with trajectory design for active debris removal. I’m interested in debris removal, so I would like to work on it for the master’s degree.

I took keen interest in compressible gas dynamics, when I learned it, so I’m very glad to join STSEL. My research topic is supersonic nozzle design optimisation. I’ll do my best to work on it.

I joined STSEL because I’m interested in space transportation systems and scramjet propulsion. I’ll study the external flow around the launch vehicles.

I am Mexican-American from California. From a young age, my biggest dream has been to travel through the stars and explore other worlds. I have come to STSEL to research the feasibility of satellite structural design for in-space assembly by implementing 3D printing aids. My hobbies are training, martial arts, anime, comics & exploring.

I am an undergraduate student from VIT Vellore, India, with a keen interest in propulsion and aero-thermodynamic aspects of hypersonic cruise and accelerated vehicles, and emerging Entry Descent Landing (EDL) technologies like Supersonic Retro-Propulsion.
Apart from research, I like reading about new technologies and international geopolitics.

Hayato Mori

I love the sophisticated designs and intricate systems of aerospace vehicles such as airplanes, rockets, and space craft. That’s why I’m eager to work at STSEL and help create even better transportation methods. In my free time, I am involved in a club where we design and build human-powered airplanes. I find joy in creating objects with my hands.

Shuvayan Brahmachary

I obtained my PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and then I joined Space Transportation and System Engineering Laboratory. Here, I get the opportunity to bridge the gap between computational techniques and experimental methods. I am working towards designing efficient airbreathing engines while also contributing towards the use of highly parallel frameworks to tackle optimisation problems related to space debris. Apart from academics, I am an avid fan of Chelsea FC, distance running, mindfulness and an occasional reader.
